As the Earth’s surface temperature gradually rises, it has become vital for us to predict the rate of this increase with as much precision as possible. In order to do that, scientists need to understand more about aerosols and clouds. Jasper Kirkby details an experiment at CERN that aims to do just that.

Climate models are computer simulations of all the complex interactions of the atmosphere, oceans, land surface, ice and biosphere. They account for the incoming radiation from the sun and the radiation emitted back out to space. To be able to provide reliable climate simulations and predictions, climate models must be based on the laws of physics and chemistry.
