In Kenny Coogan’s book, Florida Carnivorous Plants, he highlights the works of Marjory Stoneman Douglas, as well as Minnie Moore Wilson and May Mann Jennings. These women were able to secure lands for wild places and wild animals in the early 1900s when it wasn’t a popular concept.
Marjory Stoneman Douglas is quoted as saying "It is a woman's business to be interested in the environment. It's an extended form of housekeeping." Today we know that all of us can become conservationists. Wetlands in particular help filter our air, soil and water and provide homes and food for a diverse population of wildlife. If we help save wetlands, they may in return help save us.
