Let’s Begin…

On October 4, 1957, the Soviet Union launched the satellite Sputnik and, with it, an international space race. The United States and the Soviet Union rushed to declare dominance of space for 18 years, until the two countries agreed to a more collaborative model. The real winner? Science. Jeff Steers describes the history -- and the benefits -- of the space race.

I believe that the space race never ended. The reason for this statement is that today we are looking to go to Mars this means that there are still tensions between the countries in the space domain. I also believe that the winner of the space race is a matter of subjectivity, at school in the "capitalist side" we learn that the USA won but in Russia, they learn how they definitely won and they never mention the apollo 11 mission which is the main argument for the USA to win. So in conclusion, it's subjective so you need to decide who won yourself or simply wait to see who lands in Mars first.

There was no definitive victor in the space race between the USA and USSR. This is because in the end, the two countries agreed to cooperate in their space exploration efforts. The space race brought many technological advancements to both nations, both to their space programs and everyday life. The combined effort during the final years of the space race allowed both contries to advance, and ease the already high tensions of the cold war era.

There was no winning because in the end the leaders of each country decided to combine their forces rather than compete. So the competition was over due to it being called off. However, it seems like the SU was more advanced technologically, so they were ahead of the US, even though it was called off.

No one won. The point of the space race was to prove which county was better and to boost moral at home. If one side lost the space race and gave up we would not have the technology we have today nor the space programs.

I honestly believe there was no winner of the space race. The reason of this is because the US was not the only country who made it to space, USSR did. We were the first people on the moon but we were not the first people to reach space. Everyone was a winner.
