Let’s Begin…

A husband and wife were in despair. The woman had just given birth to their 13th child, and the growing family was quickly running out of food and money. Wandering into the woods, the father encountered a skeletal figure with sunken eyes and a gaunt face: this was Death himself, come to offer his services as Godfather. Iseult Gillespie tells the tale of Death and the doctor.

Why do you think the fairytale portrays lives through the metaphor of flickering candles? Do you think what happened to the doctor was fair?

It is naive for the father to think that all people are equal in the eye’s of death. The doctor gain his reputation only because of the devil without doing any work and he received those strict orders not to change the fate of any patient. Then he spun the bed to cure the king as he just wanted the glory of saving him. So I think what happened to the doctor was fair enough. Anyway I understand how sorrow it is to witness people dying in front of you while you’re lame.

life is like a candle flame, when it goes out life is over. The flame while it is burning seems strong and can withstand anything. But then you realise that the flame goes out very easily, what seems strong is very weak and with a breath of air it can be consumed.

I think the fairy tale portrays lives through the metaphor of flickering candles because flickering candles portrays they lives in fairy tales. I think would happen to the doctor that was fair would kill them.

I think what happened to the doctor was fair. Because first of all the doctor had recived a warning. And second when he was reviving the king he wasnt doing it to help the king he just wanted to recive the credit and fame for reviving the king.

Because eventually candles melt away like time, meaning eventually the flame will burn out when it reaches the melted wax puddle, like life itself. It was fair because death didn't break his promise but the doctor did.

I don't think the doctor's life was fair because the god doesn't choose death. The person will choose what to do and that will choose when they die.

1) Cause the candle don't decide when turn on and off, and also cause every second that went by its a seconde less of life.
2) Yes, he agree to the conditions that Death make, and for his avarice he didn't accomplish that agreement

In my opinion I believe that the doctor's life should have been taken because if you mess with death then the balance of life will be overthrown.

A flickering candle is a proper metaphor to represent a life because it shows how a light extinguishes like a fire. I believe the doctors death is fair because death is known for being equal in its judgement, but the doctor favored the princess and the king for beauty and riches.

1.I think candles could die in one second. In now,if we blow and candle, the fire could cool down.We don't know when we could die. However,if we don't have any accident, the candle melt slowly. So I think they portrayed the life like an candle.

2.I think that it's fair that happend to the doctor.Because he broked the promise.I think the story is like the world.People ruin the promise.Because they want to do something that only thing they want to do.crime is same. They ruin the law,and do an crime.Allmost of people do it,cause for their benifit.
