Let’s Begin…

If it seems like friendships formed in adolescence are particularly special, that's because they are. Childhood, adolescent, and adult friendships all manifest differently in part because the brain works in different ways at those stages of life. During adolescence, there are changes in the way you value, understand, and connect to friends. Shannon Odell explores the neuroscience of friendship.

I believe this is very true. The friendships I have made as a preteen/teenager are so much more significant to me than the ones I made as a child. If anything would have happened to a friendship at such an early age, you can't really communicate how you're feeling because we haven't developed that yet. For example, when I was younger I had a hard time staying over at friends houses because it gave me anxiety, but then I didn't know what that feeling meant. I just associated it with wanting to go home. I feel like after this video I can understand friendships a lot more deeply.

Este video se me hizo interesante ya que podemos observa como es que trabajamos las emociones con nuestras amistades y así poder tener diferente perspectiva.

The video on friendships may offer new perspectives on the nature and importance of friendships, the dynamics involved, and the impact they have on well-being. It could potentially change the way individuals think about their current and past friendships in a few ways:

Understanding the significance of friendships: The video might emphasize the importance of friendships in our lives and highlight the various benefits they bring, such as social support, emotional connection, and personal growth. This understanding can deepen appreciation for current friendships and possibly prompt reflection on the impact of past friendships.

Examining friendship dynamics: The video may shed light on the dynamics at play within friendships, such as reciprocity, trust, and communication. This may lead individuals to reflect on their own friendships and evaluate the quality of these dynamics in their past and current relationships.

Several scientific results that back up this claim are listed below:

Social Network Size: Research has found that as individuals become older, their social networks tend to get smaller. Compared to younger people, older folks often have smaller social networks. This may be due to things like family dynamics changes, retirement, moving, and life adjustments.
Reduced Social Opportunities: Compared to younger demographics, older persons may see a loss in social possibilities. It may no longer be possible to access locations of employment and education, which are often ideal venues to meet new people and build connections. In addition, socializing may become less of a priority due to family obligations, caregiving responsibilities, and physical limits.
Existing Friendship Stability: As people become older, their existing friendships tend to survive longer and be more stable. While this is advantageous for preserving intimate bonds, it may also provide more possibility for new connections
