A young inventor's plan to recycle Styrofoam
Lesson created by Emilie Soffe using TED-Ed's lesson creatorVideo from TED-Ed Student Talks YouTube channel
Let’s Begin…
From packing peanuts to disposable coffee cups, each year the US alone produces some two billion pounds of Styrofoam -- none of which can be recycled. Frustrated by this waste of resources and landfill space, Ashton Cofer and his science fair teammates developed a heating treatment to break down used Styrofoam into something useful.

Turning Styrofoam into into active carbon is a great idea because it could really help the Earth. It is a very smart idea because it can even help the animals. It is also very unique.

Turning Styrofoam into activated carbon is a great idea but I believe that you should try to make Styrofoam have other uses. Active carbon is a great idea because it can help with the pollution but it should have other uses like a reusable bag. I think this because we use plastic bags and we use a lot of Styrofoam so we should try to make it reusable like a bag. Ashton is doing the right thing but he could help the world even more. That is how Ashton and his team can help even more.
