I had the pleasure of doing a short tour with Vusi Mahlasela a few years ago. While the shows were an absolutely incredible experience, it was equally amazing to sit backstage and simply listen to him tell stories. Here, Vusi talks about music, its social impact, and his hopes for how we relate to each other in this challenging world.
Vusi’s songs were an integral part of the struggle against apartheid in South Africa. Can you think of protest songs that were a meaningful part of any other social movements? Do any of them have a personal meaning to you?
