Lesson created by Whitney Raser using TED-Ed's lesson creatorVideo from Alphablocks YouTube channel

Let’s Begin…

A-E-I-O-U are special letters: they are vowels! Any word you write has to have a vowel, but did you know that vowels can make two sounds? Vowels can make a short sound AND a long sound. To make a long vowel sound you need different pairings of letters. In this video we'll learn what the long u sound sounds like and how you can make it!

In your own words, retell the story of what happened to the letter u in the video. How did the tree end upside down?

What happened was: first, the tree was upside down. Then It grew because g, r, e, and w made grew or ( GRU ) and the Magic u that was sitting on the tree grew. Then, u got blown, it got worse, u flew and it landed on the tree that also flawed and landed sideways-left. Then, the tree got blue. Then, u was glued and got rescued later on. Then the magic e came u and the magic e played the little tune. U played the lute, magic e played the flute, and magic E saved U with a prune. Then, the letter formed a mule, the mule kicked the tree, and the U. THe tree then landed upside down. This is how the tree ended upside down in the video.
