We can spread the word by telling it to friends, family, and maybe even making speeches to warn them about the pollution we're causing.
Or to make it easier, just advice people through social media.
We can spread the word to communities such as schools, governments and companies to urge them into taking e-waste as a serious thing that needs to be solved. Spread the news on Social Media, make speeches, and start a global movement like for climate change.
We can spread the word by conducting social media events that urge people to all the negativity caused by electronics and the e-waste they produce.
Make lessons like this reach as many people as possible :)
Illustrating by smartphone companies is also a good way.
start to mi e asteroids and comets for there materials as they are what brung all these materials to earth and life
I think that to really influence people or at least let them know what sort of effect there phone has on the environment we should convince the big phone marketers to have some sort of information provided as to the global footprint this make of phone has on the environment. This way it leaves it up to the buyer to make there decision.
Saint make more cellphones? Or, like, limit one per family. Because let’s face it: how many of the 9-19 yr olds with the newest model of cellphone are using them for anything but TikToks and YouTube and Instagram and everything. We should have one or two per household, there should be an age limit to buy a cellphone, and cellphones should not have entertainment applications. They should be used for what they were intended for; calling grandmothers or relatives who live far away. Calling 911 for a hospital or police assistance in an emergency, or finding a map when your lost in an unfamiliar place. Making plans and keeping in contact with friends who move away. The most important thing should be keeping in contact, not keeping connected to the internet.
yeah we can do that
I wish that companies could be more transparent about how their products are made. Although the companies may fear that they'd look bad, it would definitely motivate them to find cleaner, healthier, and safer ways to produce their products so that consumers would be happy to buy them, knowing that their shopping choices are not having such a large impact on the world.
We can make people more aware of the cost of electronics and the terrible e-waste by making electronics much more expensive. By jacking up the price, people will be able to see the true "cost" of their electronics. The excess money that is being generated would be used to clean up the mess that is made to make them. To make people more aware of the e-waste that electronics produce, we need to show them first hand of the devastating effects that it is having on developing nations worldwide. There are many people suffering from being poisoned by toxins, even women and children. We also need to show people what happens to our environment when e-waste isn't disposed of properly and all of the damage that it can cause.
We should encourage families to give their children flip phones/tracfones rather than smartphones. My parents did this for me and I am very thankful. It has kept me from spending so much time on my phone and helped me remember to connect with people in person, and not just on a phone. Not only will this help the mental health of the next generation, it can have good environmental impacts too! If the next generation realizes that they don't need the latest model of phone, we can reduce our consumption of precious and rare metals.
In today's world we cannot live without phones. We are totally dependent on it. So many underaged, poor, low wage people are engaged in this process of creating a "box". It have severe environmental impacts.
We should make awareness by creating an app that should be installed by all the people. The app should provide the users the details of environmental impacts, the poor people engaged in this process, the amounts of rare and precious metals required for making a phone.
We can tell others through social media and discuss it with friends and family.
Cell phones are causing a lot of the world's global warming and should be recycled not just thrown away
Make smartphone companies tell us the impact they've made on the environment to make each individual iPhone and put limitations on them.
1) Advertise the ill effects. Bring this into the general consciousness.
2) Make them somewhat responsible for disposing of the used devices at an established e-waste collection center.
Educate students in school, the large electronic companies need to admit and find more environmentally friendly solutions
Great idea! Not only showing the benefits of electronic devices in daily live but also take a look at the downsides. I think it's similiar to the problem of lesson 2 (cotton) and many other industry branches that companies try to get the most profit out of their business blindfold.
I agree and I think that would bee a good solution.
We can let people know about the impact of smartphones by making posters about it and spreading the word on social media. We should also do our part in helping the environment by recycling, donating, or reusing our phones.
I thought it would be better to live like people lived in the 18 hundreds. We would use wood and stone to make houses and we would NOT use any time of eletronics. :D
I believe as consumers we need to be aware and responsible of what we are buying. I am very sure not everyone knows these truths. We need the system itself to help us not contribute to the consumption. Finally, it makes me wonder if one day we will have the opportunity to experience an high tech 100% eco friendly cellphone? Very good lesson. Thanks
We need proper education in all instituitions
When smartphones are sold, maybe make it compulsory to display the carbon footprint and other statistics of degradation for each phone. Consumers would then know exactly how their phone causes harm and this can also motivate producers to make phones more sustainable.
Certainly there is a lot to learn from our ancestors with respect to living more lightly on the planet. Do you think becoming more connected to where all our stuff comes from can help change our society's current wasteful mindset? Dr. Kat
We can like make a video about this so many people can see it and make less e-wastes
we need to start pushing lawmaker to create take back laws and make companies who create these devices to internalize the cost they push to the environment and society.
That's a really good question.. I'm not really sure.. ;-;
1.We can post poster around most countries telling them to re-use their smartphones in the e-waste. 2.We can tell scientists to work harder on inventing a environment friendly phone. 3. We can tell our friends to send their smartphones to a company that can refurbish smartphones.
Teaching this in our schools. In grade 9 I wrote a 5,000 word report on the impact that my specific phone type has on the environment and communities. Many phones have their country of manufacture written under the battery. If you're comfortable with taking your battery out momentarily, You'll be surprised by where your phone was made.
1. Electronic and print media
2. Social Media platforms
3. Discussions
We need to add lessons on hazards of smartphones in schools and colleges.Teachers, parents need to tell the children about how costly it is for our environment these cellphones are.We need to convey this message on public platforms.
Cellphone manufacturer can be asked by government to write warning message on cellphone packs that it is harmful to environment and contains toxic metals.
Placing a warning on electronic devices stating the harm they are capable of can help to make people more aware of its e-waste. Also, creating ads to share online and on television can alert people to the facts as well.
Well,I think we should use all of our electronics until we can't use it.Literally.
I can broadcast the photos of open pit mining areas in social media. Social media is a good way for show the reals to people. Also I can make speechs to people about this topic. I can write about this topic in the magazines.
This lesson is going to be share.
the first step is getting people to be aware of the environmental impact of using and producing smartphones. then, there may be people with ideas and knowledge that can come up with alternatives for us to implement within a short space of time instead of waiting till the resources needed to produce and manufacture phones runs out. it will likely have to be a group of people/scientists with extensive knowledge in chemistry, metals, technology and design who will be able to think of or create sustainable alternatives for the materials used in smartphones.
We could tell them about how to recycle the old phones also make them aware about how it is made.
Students in schools should be taught about these things so that they could make their parents aware. World wide campaign of mass awareness should be organized, people should get to know about these things as soon as possible. Lessons and videos and other kinds of stuff related to electronics and e-waste should be made and shared as much as possible to spread awareness.
We can show them this video and lesson, and teach them to schools, businesses, and schools.
I think the most influential way we can spread the word is by sharing this information to as many people as we can, whether a stranger or someone we have known for years. Another good idea would be to make our own lessons about these topics to share with the world.
Spread awareness, and I think people have too many phones because of the new phones craze.
Make the smartphones as long lasting as possible so that they do not need to be replaced every couple years.
1. Create awareness, especially among children, about the adverse impact of smartphones on the environment
2. Compel phone-making companies to advertise the environmental impact too when marketing their phones
3. Develop more e-waste recycling plants
4. Encourage innovation for alternatives
type properly!!
we can tell them
Making pop up adds
We need to not just buy new phones all the time, but try to use our technology as long as we can and get it repaired.
showing people pictures
showing pitures
Showing and spreading pictures and videos
I think that the best way is to put ads online on social media sites such as Instagram and Twitter. I think that this would get the word out of the impact each phone is making on the planet.
We can use the principle, 'show, don't tell'. If we have billions of people who love using their smartphones today, they will surely like to see how it gets to them and who is involved in the making. As individuals, You, those who are reading this, making such conversations and I can spread the word to our friends and family. Whenever anybody you know is thinking of buying a new device, talk to them, ask them to reconsider if it's really necessary, think of ways to use current devices for longer and encourage innovations that upgrade the old rather than degrading. We must find ways to recycle e-waste and refurbish essentials from old devices. We must encourage enactment of Product Takeback laws and establishment of e-waste recycling units in local areas.
don't waste the land!! that land is used for farming and they are just dumping old dated phones into those fields that could be used to grow crops.
We can help people see what they are doing to our planet and help others make a change
Through sharing this information by social media and commenting our parents about what we learn on those videos. Unfortunately, young people in my country is not aware about the harmful part of electronic waste. For that reason, we need to do more than the expected. By posting on a social media, we are trying to make them aware of this terrible issue. If we share that information to all relatives we have, we will do a fantastic multiplier effect.
We can make some sort of software or anything that shows others what the people have to go through to make the phones and give details about the impacts on the environment and the rare elements used to make those phones
I think limiting wont help because the act of limiting itself has proven to be ineffective and makes people want it more. Transforming it to a social thing can do, so that people wont use it in spare time. Or increasing life quality can do it too.
We can join the Fridays for Future, and use lots of voices to help people hear that they can choose what the future looks like. We ould make companies that make electronics responsible for their products at the end of their usefulness.
i feel we can spread awareness and consciousness to the country about how much of an impact our devices are having on our world by lowering the number of devices we produce to try and lower the amount of destruction were causing our planet. I also feel if we urge more people to refurbish and re use old devices instead of diss carding them not in the proper way then we can re-use the needed parts to create something new rather than just getting new elements.
we need to spread the word. not enough people know about this crisis and if we don't tell the world soon it will be too late.
Watch this video! and do your own speech's tell your family and friends
Let us try to encourage the younger people to be aware of this situation so we can prevent this from happening in the future.
It can be taught by schools and word of mouth. It could also be published in a book.
If that was what smartphones were for, they wouldn't be smart. Therefore, if that happened, people could just reuse flip-phones from 2003. Also, this may not be a good point, but if smartphones could not connect to the internet, you would have people who didn't have a laptop lugging around 100+ pound desktops, which could cause injuries. Another thing is that many people use the internet to keep in contact. Let's face it, how much would you like to lug a giant desktop PC to a coffee shop and plug in a dial-up modem only to find that nothing new is happening with your friends?
If electronics were more expensive, some people wouldn't be able to keep in contact.
What's a tracphone? Also, I personally really like the idea of people getting flip-phones, so that the older devices/programs(flip-phones can run apps too) can be preserved.
Or keeping the devices to preserve them!
And then die of the black death.
Oh sorry. That was sarcastic. But think about it. The 1800s weren't really better for the environment. They used steam engines for everything, and gas lamps for light, neither of which are very good for the environment.
One problem with using old hardware again is that it may not be compatible with new software, and new hardware may not be compatible with old software. So keep your old hardware, in case you need to run some old software, but also obtain new hardware every time there's a major step forward that makes the old hardware obsolete. Don't just buy new hardware for the sake of it, buy it because you need it to run new software.
Also, I think I have a solution to making an environmentally friendly phone. Technically, we can convert any material to another material by changing the layout of atoms. If we can use lasers to zap wood and turn it into copper and other metals, we can make phones sustainable.
We can make a article that shows how our electronics are harming the environment, make a speech, tell our friends and family, do an experiment, and other things to get them to understand how much electronics are harming the environment.
I agree with reducing the amount of electronics in each family, all thought maybe one smartphone per family is going a little too far. Maybe the fathers can try an teach their sons and daughters how to take advantage of those electronics and be more aware about the consequences of buying a new one.
Maybe teaching friends and family about how those electronics are created and what happens when they are dump. Create movies about the life of electronics, like a toy story movie, but instead of toys coming to life, you have smartphones and laptops. Also, companies can put labels on the products boxes pointing out all the materials needed to create one, like how nutritional labels do.
We could make people more aware of these serious topics by advertising methods to reuse various household objects and electronics. Many people simply have no idea of the impacts that small choices can have globally, and the only way to fix this is through education.
With this video, more awareness is already being spread, to further spread it the use of social media would leave a great impact, use of influencers too, for example, last year a youtube raised over 20 million dollars to plant more trees, 1 dollar = 1 tree.
I believe that one of the major steps to reducing the purchase of new electronic gadgets is to remind people to not take ownership of the latest tech products as a status symbol. Advertisements keep trying to convince us that the latest phone is the one that will make life better. We need to educate ourselves and others about our personal contributions to environmental degradation.
With a fair price for all of the costs people would realize how expensive it is. Furthermore this could be taught at school or at home. Transparency of phone companies is also a key issue
We can tell friends family classmates or even use social media.
Social media is huge these days and using it to spread important things like this could really help us out!
Registering and recording to reduce unwanted purchase of cellphones or just stick to telephones cause old is gold
We can organize marches that promote safer cell phone manufacturing. Also we can consider using different types of non-toxic materials to make phones in the future.
Maybe we could put up some billboards showing that iPhones and android phones can cause global warming
Tell your mom or dad that when they are ready to throw away their phone give it to someone who doesn’t have one
They could put it on the news - watched by billions of people all over the world. Everybody could take this mini class that we just took. People could makes speeches. People could adopt pets instead of having electronics.
Inform and educate people who have less knowledge about this, and help raise awareness and serve social media as a platform to speak out
Create a tracking system where people can see how and where our devices go and get processed
Tell more people to recycle their phones.
Getting big news sources to talk about the affect it has on the environment could help a lot. Similar to the news sources, when celebrities talk about something a lot of people then start to pay more attention to that subject, so if big celebrities start to raise awareness about the making of phones - even if they are payed to do it, it could make a lot of people aware of the toll on the environment making phones and electronics in general.
To tell people about the chemicals in phones. Maybe make a tv show or commercial. Even a YouTube channel.
We need to create awareness about this topic. E-waste and what are the options to recycle and reduce the environmental impact of e-waste. Government and corporations should come forward and take the lead. Children should learn about it from schools and parents.
ya i know
Get the media on side and get them to run a campaign.
We can spread the word by telling friends and family, making ads and supporting a way to make it possible to stop making environmental problems and find a new way to go about it
the govverment can make new laws
We could make famous people aware of what happens and get them to tell them to spread the word. People listen to famous people...for some reason?we could also make giant posters and attach them to famous places that are well known and make a catchy slogan.🐺
Take action to notify nearby family members or friends of the severity of the electronic waste.
We can get the word out on social media platforms. On a more personal level, we have to resist the urge to upgrade our phone to the latest model so companies won't make one readily available.
We can educate our family and friends about it.
posters everywhere and tell everyone about it
I have to tell a lot of people that their phones can be recycled.
These problems can be easily recognized by people, such as videos and movies, so that they can recognize environmental problems.
We need to share this video on sns to alert people to the seriousness of the problem.
tell friends and family and maybe put it on the back of packets for phones and ipads
We know how cell phone`s material are harmful. It is VERY difficult to find person who does not know cell phone is consist of various material. But we can`t stop using cell phone though it causes earth to be scarred. Why we can`t stop using cell phone? Because cell phone is located far deeper in our life than any other thing. So we recognize that using cell phone causes nature to be destroyed, but can`t stop using them. Well... my opinion is We should wait for developing innovative cell phone. If we stop using cell phone, Our life quality will be getting low. cell phone is called 'tiny computer'. When they were invented, Our life`s quality were getting better. That`s true. But if we choose still using cell phone, There is nothing change just now. But someday our nature will collapse horribly. Then our life`s quality are getting low like first assumption. So we wait for new cell phone that save more material. OF COURSE we recycle our outdated cell phone during waiting new cell phone.
People know that rare earth minerals are finite, but they think they are not alert because they make electronics and do not know where and how much they are used. So, if we promote it as an advertisement that is easy to understand and tells people how it is used to pollute the environment, it will surely work, such as making them think about how to deal with used electronic products. Also, if we adjust or create new laws on electronic products, people will know a little bit more about the seriousness of the matter. Lastly, I think it will be more effective if we include information about electronic waste in the curriculum.
Each of person can just reduce dispoable products to treat earth. If each person reduce using it it would be more bigger than the everest mt. we've just think about it and now we should move on.
We have to warn people through television commercials.
I can explain about it my friends and my family. Then my friends and family are explain their acquaintance. We can know about it.
We can tell this to family, close friends, or maybe website's users we usually use.
and also we can sell old smartphone to smartphone makers. I already have sold mines two times to ATM in shopping mall
I think we have to make an advertisement. The advertisement can make people get interested in this topic and make people participate in this campaign.
I think we have to make an advertisement. The advertisement can make people interested in this topic and it can make people participate in the campaigns about this topic.
Good
We can explain this terrible problem to those around us like friends or family. And we can post it or make a campaign that explain this problem like "ice bucket challenge" on SNS. And we can make a poster about this problem and set it up in school.
You should open related campaigns or advertise them so that many people can be interested and listen to these issues. In addition, you should be able to awaken awareness to other people and others through SNS.
We can host events and inform people through social media, WhatsApp etc.
Use video media such as videos and movies.
We need to address electronic products and electronic waste and inform them through social media.
HAve famous social media users tell all their followers to maybe help the environment or something like that. Maybe have someone create a search engine and they use the money to help this cause instead of saving it for themselves.
If you have an old phone that you don’t need you could hand it along to a friend if they didn’t have a phone.
We could go on a strike. That would be fun!🐺
Basically nothing is taken or made from outside of the earth .. if it is metal it is going to where it belongs to finally .. and once it over people will come up with something new .. as it's all work on economic ... When that shakes no one will dare to touch it
That part about pets makes no sense. Pets and electronics are for different purposes. But I support both, being a budding electrical engineer. As I mentioned before, we could try and convert more common substances into that stuff.
Don't recycle your old phone unless it's broken. Reuse it.
Great!
- Put more designated bins for e-waste in the country, make poster or creative lessons about the cost of electronics.
- When buy a new phone, you should be received an illustration for raising people awareness.
It would be nice to have these educational and environmental videos shown to kids in schools so that they, at an early age, can be made aware of the impacts of our technology. Perhaps environmental courses should be included in the school curriculum in all levels of education.
We can tell others through social media.
You could do a science project on it, that's a good way to spread the word about electronics. I've done it before with crickets.
We can spread the word by telling it to our friends, family, schools and even on social media to warn them about the pollution we're causing.
We can teach children in schools about how smartphones are made and the impact they have on the environment.
Make it easier to recycle old smartphones. Fin aged 3.5.
People pay so much attention to their phones already and every game or website shows tons of ads, might as well play into that, and start advertising and showing videos talking about all the harm that we are causing to our environment.
Spread Knowledge!! We can spread the knowledge of the cost of electronics and the waste they produce. This could be done through social media or online as well as in schools to allow children to learn from a young age but also spread the message to parents. The knowledge through both uses would then be passed along to others.
By spreading the word people can become more aware of the global impact. Perhaps if the smartphone companies themselves cut back their need for money and spread the word, people will have better smartphones that last longer (though i do not think that will happen). But by simply encouraging friends or family to donate their phones to charity or other family members, we can slowly but surely start to resolve this issue, before a completely sustainable phone is invented.
I think there are little things depend on individual persons. But maybe, If we all joined together and tried to spread the information about harmful influence of producing the phones, the creators would try to produce their products from more sastainable resources.
One of the ways we can do this is by simply telling friends and family
People can post more information about the metals allocated to developing our phones and how they are running out (a finite resource). That's why people need to recycle or refurbish used phones to make sure these precious metals and elements can be reused for a similar purpose.
It slightly stops me from getting a phone.
dont use it alot so you dont damage your brain
We could show them all this and maybe they will understand how important it is to use our electronics till they really run out and cant possibly work (Cikka age 11)
We can raise awareness through popular visited social media making people aware of the global footprint electronics cause. We can also discourage pop culture pressuring people to buy new iPhones that came out.
To help spread awareness, on labels of phones put how much pollution was produced or the *********** of workers (like with chocolate you have fair trade) and maybe give information on the amount of materials that were used. Also, you could have what to do with your phone (instead of throwing it away) and advice.
All I can say is... we might want to think again before asking our parents for that new iphone 11.
We should put WARNING signs on phone boxes to make people aware of the impact of their purchase. (Like cigarette boxes have warning labels, but in this case for the environment's health.)
protect the earths minerals that are used in smartphones??(idk)
I agree!(sorry)
Share via social media, put ads in deparment and elecrtronic stores. Vote to have more environmental laws put into effect for electronics and make refurbishing the norm. Have more repair shops than new product stores. Encourage long term and upgradable design and have small parts available for purchase to repair rather than toss and upgrade.
we can make outreach articles and promote them on social networks, which is what all people have and use today, also make short videos as information capsules that attract attention and promote them
We can inform friends, families and they spread the word and people that work with electronics maybe reduce the amount of electronics in stores.
We can make people more aware of the cost by telling people we know by telling them to spread the word and people that work at electronic shops to reduce the amount of electronics they have in the stores.
I would start a class about no pollution for pre-kindergarteners to university.
Aleks, 7
The companies should mention these key points in the product box itself and should also be mentioned in every new phone launch that take place. spread of this message should hold a dedicated slot in these mega events.
We can make posts and videos explaining the dangerous outcomes the electronics can produce and how to make them more sustainable
We can put up signs around our community, so we can inform people about the mess that their "amazing" phones are creating. Altogether, all of us can cover a lot of space, and hopefully, be able to inform a lot of people about the terrible e-waste. Also, we might as well tell people to use their devices longer, or not get a new one at all.
You should spread the word using posters and social media to let people know the impact that their phone has on the environment. It would also be useful to write to the government to ask them to think about changing the rules around e-waste.
St. Ed's Year 6
Nobody sais it is illegal to make an add. So, make an add exposing phone companies and the terrible things they do.
It can be done as an electrical waste campaign and disposed of in an electronic wastebasket.
whit the social media platform
Maybe implement lessons about the topic at school so that from a young age kids learn this and can get to be more conscious
Of course, one way to spread this message is to share this video and others like it with friends, family, and anyone else. In addition, one way to ensure people know the cost of what they are buying is obliging companies to prominently display these costs and wastes on the packaging of the item they are selling.
take a initiative ourselves and travel the world to tell
I don't own a phone
Because billions of people own smartphones and a great majority of that number also is present on social media, we can utilize that platform to inform everyone about how these everyday devices take a toll on the environment.
I think the best way to solve it as many other problems is by educating people. I wasn´t aware of how much waste and bad consequences were produced by electronics, but now I know. And thats the best way.
First we can try spreading the word with our family and friends, we can also sign in protests so people stop producing them, and finally, we can inform this situation in our social media!
Not many people know the outcomes a smartphone has, so we can spread the word to many people we know.
We can tell them that our phones contribute a lot to climate change. Though there are some people who don't care about that, they care about the money they get, for these people we can tell them that these materials will run out if we continue digging these minerals. Then and only then will those selfish business people care about reusing the materials that have already been dug up. If we are to help our planet, we need to think green and/or think about reusing the materials we already have around us (the stuff we already removed from the earth).
You have a point there, but thinking about the causes of making smartphones we need to think about everything that is effected. No one wants to lug about a huge piece of technology everywhere they go. In that case having a smaller device is efficient. My dad designs circuit boards and as we get more advanced with tech the circuit boards get smaller and more efficient, in that case we do minimize the amount of gold, silver, copper, etc. we use in producing a phone with the circuit board alone.
The geochemical signatures of rocks are usually given by the rare earth element concentration in them. Therefore, the scientific community should focus more on studying about the earth's past using them rather than providing the resources to these technological advances which are sometimes totally uncalled for. Every person capable of buying a decent smartphone must make sure that he/she uses that phone as long as it is possible. And, there is no need to go after new models....because they will just keep coming....just get a good phone that will get your work done and stick with as long as possible....
We should advice people though social media and fight for the earth. And once our voice as reached it's goal ,we should convince the president to make a rule.
Nicole,Sophia, Mike, Anne said that We have to think about useless phone.
Yes! I totally agree!
We should find ways and strategies to help find a more sustainable way to use and make smartphones.
The schools must teach things like this. School is the basic institution in majority of the areas and it should be made into an e-waste facility. Honestly, I have no idea where I can find one (e-waste facility) myself. The schools should ask for e- waste and even plastic waste and transport them to the required locations. Or even better, they should help students figure out ways to utilize them. This kind of activities might bring out the change we expect others to make.
the government can raise awareness by having posters and laws making it compulsory for the producers t provide such information to the users and people burning these phones. the students and the future generation must also be made aware and this can be done by the use of social media and education about such topic in school
Yes. Agree.
We can make people aware of depleting resources by using social media delivering speeches and through camps.
Maybe spread it on many web pages because people go on the internet?
We can spread the word to communities such as schools, governments and companies to urge them into taking e-waste as a serious thing that needs to be solved. Spread the news on Social Media, make speeches, and start a global movement like for climate change.
I think products need to be more clearly labelled with what they contain, and that multi-national companies in all countries should provide recycling systems for their products.
Make posters of it rather than telling everyone because it's quicker.
Doing a training campaign telling about the cost to buy a smartphone and their consequences because if you buy a smartphone and then throw away you are going to contaminate a lot
People get addicted to their phones so they need them replaced and can't survive without one. One idea is to have an hour of phone turned off (except for emergency use) on Earth Day, just like we do with the lights. We need to teach people to fix phones themselves (eg. screen replacement) if they break rather than buy a new one. Schools could run lessons for teenagers about fixing phones in design technology classes. Just like cigarettes the government could force phone companies to put information about their carbon footprint on the packaging to educate people. Gaby and Reuben (age 10)
Reuse Phones For Future Use If We need and Do not use it every time.
We could write to our local council. Also you would say if there are so many valuable materials like copper, silver and gold available we could earn so much money by selling them.
We do need to make people aware of the cost of electronics not in money but in electronic waste and how that affects the world and climate
I think on phones there can be labels with the pictures of what it's doing to the environment and that it could hurt them and other people.
I think to make a video that say what are the consequences of use of electronics
I agree
We should make a susteinable phone and find a way to stop polluting earth
We can create awareness localy by doing roleplays or through discussion.
cool
say to my family, friends , etc. all the consequences of the technology and they can tell there friends
We should encourage the use of Recycling e-boxes( and this should be done in a way people will be interested like rewards in return) since we cannot live without sophisticated mobile phones in this advanced world. Majority of people will enjoy packing up their old gadgets knowing they will be for a better use or they could even be repaired for them to use again.
We could spread the word to school politics and people like how we are today , to make online apps to show people what is happening to the world as we know it .
We could encourage schools to spread the word and even have protests against what is happening to people .
I want everyone to stop using smartphones but I can't ask the constitution to write that down.
We should raise awareness with lessons like these, in schools, social media, and anywhere people can go to find something.
TED Talks, Social media, word of mouth
We can tell them by sending letters.
By schools and teachers informing their students and then those students spreading the word to their family and friends. We can also help spread the word by getting big celebrities and role models to spread the word
One of the way to spread more awareness about the terrible e-waste that smartphones produce is to talk to about this issue to loved ones and close friends. Showing infographics and visual aids like videos are also good means to spread awareness. Schools and companies are also great places to spread this awareness
spread the word with adverts on the tv
We could post more videos on social media and get people to share them. We could have a speech or we could have lessons like this!
spreading videos like these
Just tell the people, that the phones are toxic and they can die from it. Intoxicated animals this is how it goes toxins from phone +pig equals poisoned porkchop. so try to design a natural phone so people dont get sick from hasurdus waste.
Diego the Minecraftian
Education and awareness, just like Earth School is doing! Now that I have learned more about the cost of electronics and the terrible e-waste they produce, I believe that it is my responsibility to share this information with as many people as possible.
Advice people through social media.
As most people with phones also have social media, it would be a great start to spread the word. The public need to be educated enough to be able to tell the manufacturers that they don't need these constant hardware upgrades.
We can spread the word out to communities
We could require manufacturers to include a brochure about the smartphone's need to be recycled, and that way, all consumers will be educated about how smartphones are made, so we could have old phones be recycled and deter people from constantly buying new phones.
People could start campaigning. Also they could raise awareness through social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram.
ranga
We can donate phones that we don't use, and we should never buy phones if not necessarily.
We can also use TV shows, and news to spread this idea. Furthermore, We might even use Youtube, Tiktok and Instagram to tell people about these important things about human lives and nature!
Teach the world the bitter truth and encourage them to recycle
There are many ways to communicate this growing problem worldwide but until are government can actually get a handle on the problem and stop thinking about economics for one second, we will never get the message across. People just wont listen. We still must try are best though by spreading our ideas through social media, groups of close friends and family, and trying to contact people in higher places.
Paloma (7 years old): A program that runs on TV about e-waste and how we can recycle electronics.
I think that every phone should be sold along with a small brochure explaining the manufacture of the phone, what are the chemicals used to make it, where those elements were extracted, who mined them, and what will happen after dumping the phone.
This might be a good idea to minimize the risks of hazardous materials inside smartphone by increase the consumers' awareness. It can help in making people feel the responsibility beyond their purchase, and urge them to use their phones wiser and replace them less.
By warning others because they cause extreme air and water pollution to communities near open pit mining facilities
Despite the economic harm this would likely do on companies that produce electronics, one suggestion could be to make compulsory that with every piece of electronics sold, they must provide a leaflet detailing the breakdown of its components/environmental cost/e-waste impacts etc. so that people are much more conscious of the impact of their device and are less likely to invest in even more electronics in the future because they are aware of the damage they own
Spread the knowledge throughout your community, particularly schools and the like, whilst also finding ways to contact your council and higher government and urge them to take action in finding solutions to the e-waste we produce.
mobile phones are important for everyone these days but how they are created is dangerous for whole world.however, it is important to aware people about this and we can do this through social media. we should influence people about the disadvantages of mobile phones that how they are effecting our environment. or mobile companies should aware them about these problems.
Educating children about e-waste and ensuring their understanding of the waste humans cause to the environment. Encouraging businesses to be more recycle friendly and for governments to encourage recycling programs i.e. taxing corporations that have large e-waste production and giving tax breaks to corporations that have recycling programs or have little to no e-waste.
1. Social Media (such as making a video on Youtube that tells people about this subject
2. Teaching people about this (such as going to classrooms and visiting them and telling them about this)
3. Spread the word (make posters about this. tell your friends and family. The possibilities are endless.
We can start by telling friends and family and we can also tell people on social media about how we are wasting our rare resources
We can spread awareness by making videos like this or even making it possible on social media.
Probably making speeches which are available to everyone easily is also a good option.
We can spread the word to communities such as schools, governments and companies to urge them into taking e-waste as a serious thing that needs to be solved. Spread the news on Social Media, make speeches, and start a global movement like for climate change.
You can tell other people when you get a chance and show people the video, to help them understand the steps they can take to making the world a greener place. We also really liked the Story of Electronics video because it gave us actions we could take to make a difference.
A lot of people do not care anymore about the environmental cost as long as they get the convenience they desire. Adults have the the tendency to be closed-minded. The best we can do is to tell it to the children because kids are more pliable and more open to ideas that can help them sustain and hopefully maintain a better future. We can only do much at our end. If we begin with our own families and every other family does the same, we have better chances of getting the message across that being a responsible consumer is now a must to save our children's future.
Information like this video and many other documents on climate change should be easily accessible so that we can spread the word to as many people and then open the government's eyes to Climate Change.
Encourage companies which sell phones to spread information to consumers, perhaps with their own recycling schemes?
I think companies producing gadgets such as the commonly used computers, laptops, tablets, and cellphones should not only promote the features of their products but more importantly promote environmental awareness as well, like these inconvenience to the Earth and its creations. They should suggest to consumers the practical and proper ways to dispose used electronics. TEDEd is a very useful tool to relay this information through videos to my students in school to snap their minds on the impact of acquiring more than one gadget to the environment, since the young are the most to use gadgets everyday.
Campaign, awareness and Information education campaign
We can inform our families, our community, (and even the world about it) by so much available opportunities, some we may not be able to do, and others are completely possible. Each person can do something different. An artist can draw about it, a writer can write about it, even an influential person or someone famous in social media can just talk about it. However, my opinion is that we need to stop buying every time just for the sake of peer pressure. I would sometimes see this issue inside my class alone. My fellow students would sometimes determine how rich you are by your phone version or when it was made, and of course, what the brand is. As a result , they wish for iPhones and want to replace them as fastly as iPhone models comes and goes. We all need to take a change, and it can start on ourselves and then spread into our workplaces, our school, and our neighborhood.
We can spread awareness by the following:
1. arrange events (virtually) to give speeches on e-waste from electronics
2. post this onto social media to get attention
3. make posters and put them around your school and community to remind people about disposing electronic waste
4. encourage people to spread the word to their friends and family as well
Maybe through massive campaigns that show the cost of electronics on our planet
We can start by telling our friends and family and maybe post it on social media accounts.
We could make people more aware of the problems electronics produce by putting a label in the box the electronic comes from
I think we should donate an old phone
The easiest and best way that I can think of is to write a notice on a sticker and stick it onto every electronic gadget being produced. This sticker should contain a message like :
The gadget that you are about to buy contains the following toxic materials : (List of items). It was made in a factory in ( insert location). If not properly disposed of, it can have the following effects : (Insert list). Requesting the consumer to be a responsible person and properly dispose of this device.
Of course, I don't think that many companies would agree to do this, fearing for loss of sales. But these electronic gadgets have become an almost necessary part of our lives. But this step can be taken by shop-owners by putting a notice with this message in the e-gadgets section. At least people will become aware of what their smartphone costs the environment.
The key is education, so if we inform people about the consequences of not being responsible with the products they buy and how they can help to reduce the waste there could be a positive impact, also by us giving the example and taking action with what we can do.
We could always start by encouraging the people that are close to us, our families and friends. We can invite them to learn more about these things by asking them to subscribe in platforms like these at least for awareness. As an educator, though I teach language and literature, I would always find ways to integrate topics on taking care of our environment and preservation of natural resources in some of my lessons.
We can start spreading the word from the people around us, let the people around us spread it to other people, and let the word spread so that most people are aware of the dangers of e-waste. But verbal statements alone will not affect everyone, so we can cite a few relevant examples. If this continues for a long time, how much impact people's lives will cause, may make the human body weak and sick, reduce life expectancy, and even die.
Political leaders must be aware of these situations. Responsible leaders can make campaigns and even candidates who apply for leadership can promise to take initiatives to spread awareness. Blogs can be maintained on these topics. Rather post something which is eco-friendly on social media. This generation must be taught about climate change and the vast destructions we have brought ourselves. Smart phones became an important part of the life but the online binge watching releases so much carbon dioxide. I think having an app that restricts the over limits might be helpful to reduce this impact.
We can hold informative talks on the subject and give it as a subject at school.
We can make groups that talk about the proper usage of using screens, and how to manage your time without your phone, and be more productive...
we can tell friends & family and maybe make a you can donate a old phone to someone/people who might want it or have something to do with it
We need to educate ourselves and those around us. We must put more consideration into the things we buy and use. Ignorance can be a dangerous thing.
when buying a phone, you get a cover on your phone before receiving it telling why you need to take very good care of it.
Teach people what resources it takes to make a simple phone, and encourage them not to throw out phones so quickly or if they have to, make sure they take it to a responsible e-waste place. Spreading the message is important also, teaching kids and adults.
We can make people more aware of the cost of electronics and the terrible waste they produce by spreading this knowledge and letting people know that our actions that are polluting the Earth will affect us.... very badly. So, it is essential for us to recycle and follow the rule of the nature.
We can share it on the biggest platforms, and we can inform them that phones can be useful but dangerous
Firstly, take care our electronic things. It's very insteresting knowing how much this little e-waste afecct our planet. We need to know more about it. And obviously, recycling is not the best solution, its the last one.
At the moment we should stop the idea of getting rid of phones every 2 or 3 years and instead make phones that are easy to fix and update rather than replace.
I think if l bought a smartphone even now,
I should use it for a long time to reduce
the problem of environmental pollution.
I'm glad to learn that smartphone cause
serious damage to the environment
I enrich my knowledge regarding the smart phone
It's very disturbing that such a large quantity of precious metals go waste. Instead, they can get reused and recycled to stop harming Mother Earth.
We can talk to our friends and family about the effects to the environment and the limit of the minerals and metal by manufacturing a phone.
i too wish that
in fact i think we should make people understand the concept of sustainable using of all kinds of stuff and tell them the benefits of it on them, people and environment ...........
we can tell the stuff we learned to our friends, families, and neighbors.we can also make posters and out them on walls of school or social media......
The manufacturers of these electronic products could give us an information card that would contain the information of what type of materials are being used and how much of it has been recycled, they could provide information of how to recycle our phones, as far as spreading awareness to communities, advertisements could have a great impact as these companies usually invest a lot on marketing about their products, they could also try to spread awareness and could also try to use recyclable materials which is not that tough to extract!
We can produce advertisements showing the cycle from phones, and have phones taken apart and all the parts sealed in plastic, labeled, and mapped out the countries involved with it. There could be conventions showing these, and also showing the effects of them and the ways we can avoid these things happening.
Since almost 70% of the educated population use smartphones, and other gadgets like it, we can spread the word it a way it will surely catch they attention. We can post about it in social media, make videos and set off a chain message, etc so that they will surely see it. And almost 100% of the population is surely curious, we can use that curiosity for our benefit to spread awareness. To do that, we can start a campaign and usually people are curious to know what the campaign is about so their attention will be drawn towards us. And when they come, we can give detailed explanation of the dangers of something that they use everyday (I.e.electric gadgets), and we can make them interested to contributed by telling them that it is dangerous for them personally instead of telling them the dangers that it causes to the society because in the modern world, people care more about themselves rather than the society. Self concern can be used as an aid to make sure they contribute towards this.
we can spread the news all around the world for people to be aware
Maybe we can spread the word by tellling family and friends and maybe they can give some advidce and spread the word to other people.
We can convince people by discussing this problem with family or friends and share this problem in social media such as facebook, instagram, and twitter
Try to present the facts and figures to a wide audience through social media or a presentation at work/ school in a kind and cooperative manner. People are more likely to listen if you talk with them, not just at them, so get them involved in some way to by saying what they can do to help.
When you buy a new phone, it should come with a warning message letting you know the environmental impact of producing it, just like a packet of cigarettes that informs you about the dangers of smoking.
Show people what they’re doing instead of telling them. Limiting the use of electronics through law would also be a good alternative. There are examples of the bad things technology can produce. Companies would actually gain in some way or the other by telling people what their products are made of. Many people are ignorant of this topic , so lets all make an effort.
I don't have a smartphone and I think it is how I help earth.
um We can spread to the world by telling it to close family members but i have a question as smartphones do all gadgets need these copper gold and stuff?
um you cannot help earth even though you dont have a phone
This video opened my eyes to the dangers of smartphones environmentally, sadly I don't think much is going to be done on this matter as we love our phones too much. What we can do us spread the word, try and convince people to refurbish, recycle, or give their old phones to charity. One can only hope that Eco-friendly replacements of the elements and metals are soon discovered.
We can recycle
We have to educate the people.
well... we living in a society each day more technological... so becomes more simples ,easy and effective make people more aware of their actions and concerns in relation to how they treat electronic waste and how they should alleviate it.
You can tell people specifically the costs of making a phone, what is required to get the rare elements and precious metal, and show where the phones go when they become obsolete.
We can tell how much pollution we're making to our friends and families.
I think the best way would be to spread awareness among the people as well as seeking for the supplemently ways so to bring people out of the "mobilistic"word.
If we will achieve it then it will just not help us to solve the problem of pollution , global warming etc. but also help us achieve the United Nations sustainable Goals for the world..
We can tell friends and family and make it known for the troubles a smartphone causes. We can also post signs and create ideas for other solutions for an alternative smartphone that is safer for the environment.
we can tell everyone by texting
just horible
I'm glad i don't have a smart phone
we should tell people to be carfull about so they can be safe about it
We can make people aware by having big tech companies put warnings in the packaging smartphones come in. This is a tactic that the tobacco industry uses it can be very affective.
All electronics should come with a handbook explaining all the rare metals and minerals they come with and how extracting them is not easy. But most importantly, the handbook should include instructions on how to responsibly dispose of the electronics with instructions adapted specifically for the country. If it can't be discarded properly it should not be sold.
The main issue is not usage of phones, it is related to process style of human.. It should be implemented the mechanical systems or etc. instead of using labor force to obtain the elements, and it msut be taken attention labor's rights, work conditions .. In conclusion the whole story is linked to modificate the *********** about the whole process.
We can help spread the word by using big social media platforms and also by telling schools and places that can spread awareness.
We can spread awareness about the dangers of smartphone production. Yes, these devices may be useful and convenient in our everyday lives, but little do we know about the rising issue of our world's resources, such as rare earth elements and precious metals, becoming scarce. As we spread awareness and educate young minds, we could all develop a mindset of fully utilizing our devices before buying a new one. After all, new models of cellphones aren't a necessity for us to live. We could also teach them that instead of disposing their devices, they could opt to donate or recycle them in electronic recycling machines.
When people go buy the phone the person that they buy it from should tell them not to throw it away.
Spreading awareness is what is required to be done. However, conventional methods of talks, speeches, and even skits might hardly leave an impact. What I feel each of us can do is learn more about it at a personal level and try to implement it in our day to day lives. And try to tell our friends & family about it in an interesting manner. "Lead by example" & "Walk the talk" are my main motto.
Informing people of the impact it has on our environment.
I think we can spread awareness using platforms that reach a lot of people, such as lessons like these.
I agree
Yes we can make people aware of the cost of electronics and the terrible e-waste they produce. We should give all the information to the costumers when thy buy the phones. They should know what to do with smarts phone after use. When customer go yo by a new phone, they should be asked about previous one with proper proof
We can make more lessons such as this one and try to inform as many people as possible.
By spreading the word around in general. Schools, internet, etc. It all has an impact so just do something to spread the word.
You could spread the word on your smartphone and tell everyone on your smartphone and warn them about the polution.
Get more people to watch this lesson, maybe
i will now only ever have less then 2 phones and try and help against climate change
We could tell others (that we know, of course) about what actually goes on when the production of these happens. Then we can encourage them to tell their friends and families. Then they can encourage their friends and extended family and so on.
I HAVE PHONE
we can spread the word by social media especially from TikTok, youtube, and Instagram. we should show the people that what will happen to environment if the e-waste isn’t disposed properly.
i think the quickest and most effective way is by using social media because everything spreads easily.
If a family member and/or friend mentions that they want to buy a new phone, you could share this video with them, reminding them that buying a new phone may be exciting, but it has consequences.
We can spread the word by having events for schools and to companies, or our friends, and hope they will tell everyone that they know.
hey Landon metcalf i know too
I believe eventually it will be mandatory for companies to advertise anything that harms the planet, just how cigarettes must warn you that you are harming your health.
i didn't know any of these or never thought about. e-waste is a new thing to me and it is definitely frightening me. i don't really know what could make it better but i do know it is causing a serious damage on our environment and society. in order to lessen its effect the designs of the electronic devices will have to change. by the time we invent a more environment friendly device it will leave a huge impact on our environment.
We should make people see it firsthand themselves. Show them pictures of the landfill or of the inhumane working conditions workers need to go through. Another way would be to take sessions and create awareness in social media about these harmful effects. Lastly, schools and companies should have events talking about this.
fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff
In cases like this, the first step is to always try to raise awareness. Every person belongs to a community where they can spread the word, and show their activism against terrible e-waste, which in the end affects each and everyone of us.
we could make a kidz bop song to blow up the internet (kinda like gangnam style) or we could make a ted talk
we can spread the word using signs, social media, and discussions, like this one
Learned is more it happy your bran
by the video.
I think limiting our use of smartphones is an important step in lower our dependency on them. Truly convenience is our ultimate downfall.
Spreading the word always a great option. Raising awareness through infographics on social media and contacting awareness groups to help is a start, too.
we can do it together, our citizens together can solve this problem, and we can make people aware of the cost of electronics and the terrible e-waste they are producing
I think the government should try to find ways to create phones of materials that don't hurt the environment. Like trying to use small amounts of petrol or better yet don't use petrol at all
I agree and I think that might be a good solution.
If we use more e-waste we reduced the cost of the eletronic components, if we use this components to make new devices, we reduced the percent of degradetion of environment, consequently reduce the carbon emissons
We can make many advertisements or short video clips about the destructions. Then we can spread them through social media to reach mass people. That's how many of them will know and try to save the environment for their own sake.
I think we can make people more aware of the cost of electronics and the terrible e-waste they produce by introducing this video to many others and tell them to introduce it to others. We can also tell our friends and tell them to shut their computers down when they don't need to use them and when they have extra computers that don't really work they can donate them to people who do need it so they don't have to go and buy new ones.
Social Media. Info spreads fast on those platforms
The first question is why we need a new smartphone?
We know that, if our old smartphone can work through a lot period of time we do not need a new phone. But, the smartphone producing companies always put updates and make their old smartphones worthless after 2/3 years. So, smartphone companies have to consider providing after sell service extended to a larger period of time then they have now.
We can spread the word by telling it to friends, family, and maybe even making speeches to warn them about the pollution.
tell friends and family go do a ted talk and warn your whole school or workplace.
That's an excellent idea, but we could take it even further: revert the phone to the old-school style, remove all entertainment and messaging functions and have only one per community.
The best way to do that is by investigating companies, then once you've found suspicious information, to write to a local newspaper and ask them to publicize it. If the population is against a business, the business will either change its ways or shut down.
Making people more aware about what's in their phones shouldn't happen through social media. If phones are affecting the environment so badly, the only way to change this would be by getting a powerful figure (politician, etc.) on your side, since humans are influenced so easily
Smart phones are dangerous to the environment. Shouldn't we try to NOT use social media?
Having the big electronic companies (Apple, Samsung, etc) advertise more eco-friendly phones. I think most people will listen to big companies that have a lot of power, by making a few posts on the internet, I think a lot of people will change their minds and learn about the pollution that its causing.
true
Make the companies that make them like Samsung or Apple have this information taught to buyers, laws to ensure those companies are more socially respnsible and maybe make phones that do last a lifetime
yes
As consumers, we can do a better job of not buying more electronics. If we help to stop feeding into the cycle of always having a new gadget we can make an effort in not adding to the e-waste.
Telling other people about what bad things the making of phones is doing to the planet and buying only one electronic
We can spread the word by petition the requirement of companies that sell cell phones to disclose what it took to make the phone and the entire process of it and the damages it cost on the way.
I think if we spread this message enough, it might get to the government, scientists, etc. If the message DOES reach them, they might be able to figure out an alternative, and eco friendly soloution. The government can also make a limit to how old you have to be to have a phone, or somthing like that. This way, it reduces the number of phones being purchased and made.
We can inform people we know, and distribute this video. Smartphone companies should also address this issue and tell their buyers the issues.
I think that we could try to get some of the biggest leaders in the world to talk about the problem with phones. If that doesn't work, then we could tell our friends and family to spread the word and we could maybe write a letter to the prime minister.
We can spread the awareness by telling friends, family, and everybody else. We can make speeches and internet blogs as well.
Maybe people can put up ads or billboards or more videos on what happens with the waste.
My classes responses: Label the product the boxes with information. Send a text message to all phone users with the video we just watched. Encourage consumers to learn about where product comes from before purchase. Put it in the newspaper. Share information with friends, and then it'll continue with word of mouth. Have a sign with all info at the store. Tell friends about refurbishing phones. Put it on the background of the phones so consumers have to see.
We can start using old phones till they are dead or broken and then recycling then will help with pollution.
It's difficult to make people change their mind immediately because smartphones and electronic devices are important and necessary for the time being. However, I believe that people nowadays do care about the environment as well as their health. Therefore, they will take this issue seriously if we let this news approach more and more people. Most of them use social media these days, so we can share this video to our friends, family, relatives or acquaintances. Moreover, we should also spread this information at schools because educational environment is the appropriate place to change people's mind effectively. Therefore, we can firstly educate the young generation, then the people around them. Together we can make things better. I believe that.
Education is key. Also, charity work to spread awareness of the issue, whether that be to friends and family, or strangers
To get people awareness, we need to educate to the people about of cause and effect.
The big influent corporations, companies, and associations need to start change the way they are going. For example, apple company have been creating the product that can be recycle and they are about to lunch it. Google have been trying to use 100% renewable energy for their data center and working environment.
And also government can also aware the companies that kind of projects in our cities.
In my opinion, it will be better to make an advartisment about chemicals in phones and tell in it about problem and a reason why do we have to break apart this technologies. Or post a videos like this in different apps where a lot of people can watch it and think about it.
In my opinion, people always listen to celebrities. If the star starts to promote something, many people will see her conversation and think about her words.
Or, remembering that you need to start with yourself, you can start to protect the planet, joining friends and relatives, they will tell their relatives and so on.
Maybe we can put posters saying to donate old phones.
Agreed. People always listen to someone who's famous.
I think that there are many ways of telling poeple, like social media, posters, discussion, and by making videos, like the Ted Talks. One thing that could happen is people don't listen. Some people think that if it doesn't affect them, it doesn't matter. One solution I think we could have is by writing letters to our government. If the people in charge make changes, then people will realize how important this is.
We could try to fundraise for oganizations that help heal global waming, and try to tell people the prosess and then people can understand more of what it takes to make thins like that.
Nowadays a huge amount of people use their phones but they even don`t think about harm of it. Humanity buys new phones without any mind that they pollute environment where they live. So to my mind we should talk about it on TV , advertising , radio and other. Because if some well-known human talk about nature and harm that they are causing people might be attendive to him of her.
To my mind, we can make a project called “Save our planet reusing phones”. I think, if person just tell another person that electronics cause the harm to our planet, he won’t change his meaning and won’t start to consider on it from another side. All electronics have damaging influence on nature, so people have to be more responsible and appreciate Earth.
We can spread the words by telling are friends and family about and we can post things about it on social media. An start a fundraiser or a go fund me paige
Polution
The problem is the fact that few people are taking the initiative and others are not. Most people (even if they know about it) don't want to believe it and act upon. Taking up the initiative on a larger scale and making their voice heard is what people need as an inspiration at this moment.
Spread the word to others, and tell electronics companies that we want transparency and policy change. We can also use our own electronics as long as possible.
We should make that people do not throw way their phones easily like buy a new phone every year because of new models. Phone companies can be informed and agreed about effects of electronics. Also we should organize events to inform people.
We can use social media platforms for a useful cause like this instead of something useless.
Or we can publish a PIL against the steady use of the smartphones like the PIL published on Delhi environment, in INDIA ( as far as I know )
We can spread the word, give advice, make the prices MUCH higher so people don't buy them, and maybe they can find a way to makes phones without harming the environment.
We should make lots of speeches about climate change.
we can look for many different ways how we can reuse things like phones, cloth and paper. If we do that, we can show other that we realy care about our planet.
but that'd be hard and kinda impossible(?). Phones have so many advantages and play important roles in many fields in this very sophisticated era. Don't you think maybe it'd be better if we can replace the materials with other materials that are way environmentally friendly?
but that'd be hard and kinda impossible(?). Phones have so many advantages and play important roles in many fields in this very sophisticated era. Don't you think maybe it'd be better if we can replace the materials with other materials that are way environmentally friendly?
We can spread the word by telling our friends and family about the impact that phones give to the environment and workers, and we can tell them how to avoid or reduce the impacts to them.
I don't really know how phones work but can't we replace the materials with other materials that are environmentally friendly?
We should start with the giant technical companies like apple did on this yr,2020
you are right this is a problem that we need to stop
That is the best idea here because that is the path the world needs to take to get better.
-Spread awareness by letting more people around you realize (if the listen) what we have been doing to the earth's atmosphere, climate changes, deforestation, carbon emissions, all sorts of harms without paying much attentions to well-beings of future generations.
-Perhaps research more efficient e-wastes management systems if applicable in the future.
-Environmental friendly materials?
-Encourage/promote use of refurbished phones.
The production company should encourage the users to exchange the used phone for a new. Because each time a new model of a mobile phone is launched, most people want to buy it at once. Next, the activists should acknowlege the cost of making an electronic device like a mobile phone or a laptop. Let them know the complications of wasting electronic devices. And encourage them not to buy many devices unnecessarily. Later on, we should spread the information at school. This can help our younger generation to be more aware of e-waste.
I think although phones may be useful, but most are bad, like screen time breaking your eyes, social danger, and bad for the earth.
I just noticed that how valuable and inconvenience of electronic devices. Most of the people are using these devices without knowing like me. Thus, we have to spread these awareness to people from this kind of school, social media and trainings.
Awareness programs should be carry out in a variety of ways to make people aware of how electronic devices and smartphones are harming the environment. For example, giving awareness flyers to customers at phone & electronics stores, advertising on TV programs and broadcasting on radio channels.
I think better way and easiest way must be spreading words between friends and family . We have to start from the beginning if we want a better outcome .
I think that the best way of knowledge sharing through the social media such as facebook, instagram is more effective than other. Because 3.6 billions people use the social medias.
We can spread the world by telling about it to our friends, family members. Also we need to add or teach this as a lesson in schools. Or the another way is advice people through social media.
In my opinion, almost everyone in the world should know about the smart are very important in our daily life, on the other hand, how they affect our environment. People who already have the knowledge of the terrible e-waste they produce should spread or share that knowledge between friends and families. In this way, words will be spread from place to place and some people will be aware of the cost electronics and the terrible e-waste they produce.
As today is technological age especially social media which is mostly used by all the limitless age , so we can use that social media stars to solve this problem. I guess this is the fastest way to aware and the most effective route too.
Firstly. If we used smart phone, damaged my eyes.We can spread the word by telling it to friends, family, and maybe even making speeches to warn them about the pollution we're causing.
Or to make it easier, just advice people through social media.
We can consider setting an e-waste box within the community, to make it easy for all, and create posters of how old smart phones should be recycled to educate people.
we can donate our old phones and spread the news to everyone!!!
i think this should be share to other people , and should manage a safety place for old phones.
we can make people more aware of the cost of electronics and the terrible e-waste they produce by learning as a school lesson and showing a short video in the social media
What about the most influencing companies like Apple, Samsung, Dell, Sony, Panasonic etc. themselves sharing knowledge of e-waste at their new products launching events? Also making events like accepting e-waste of their own products so that they can reuse in repairing. Most importantly, we should educate children as they are the mans for tomorrow. For example, making activities and quizzes about the cost of electronics and e-waste that all of them can participate freely at school. Moreover, social media is a key in spreading words to people all over the world thus we should encourage influencers to make online campaigns that everybody can take part in easily.
Use pigeons to communicate and to stop the production of phones.
I can't believe I am actually saying this. I think the design for last instead of design for the dump is possible obviously but we do know that companies are competing with each other and tearing apart. So I think educating consumers is more important than educating enterprises. U know what I mean top positions like CEO they are driven by competition and consumer demands.
I think most of the people know about the terrible e-waste. But using the smart phone is very popular in these days. That's why they can't stop using their phones. If so, we need to write articles on facebook, website and newspaper to get people aware of the negative effects of this. The more they see this subjects, the more they will understand.
I mean, this sounds REALLY stupid and impossible. . .But what if the whole world just went back to not using devices. We've gone THOUSANDS of years without cars, and laptops, and iPhones. And was the human race perfectly fine? Most likely, just ask you're grandparents, if you can, what it was like before the modern day iPhone? WHY CAN'T HUMANS GO BACK TO HORSE AND CARRIAGE!??!!??!?!
That's TERRIBLE!!! And scary! I have always wanted a flip phone or one of those old ones! I wonder if those are just as bad for the environment as Smart Phones!
We can spread the word by telling it to friends, family, and maybe even making speeches to warn them about the pollution we're causing.
Or to make it easier, just advice people through social media.
In order to make all the people to be aware of the materials to make a smartphone and the effects on the global resources, we all need to work together to share the information to the supply chain. The material miners, the producer of the smart phones, the distributors, the merchants as well as the end users. The policy maker also need to put more regulations on E -waste disposal and exporting of E Waste to poor countries. It's along journey, but we need to play our own role to reduce the effects on the human being and to help keep the world green.
visual representation of the supply chain, how many miles things had travel, and the physical damage it causes, and the physical labor required for extraction and assembly
yah
Well, for one, educating the people is a stand that we should all take. We have the right to know what is going on in the world around us, not just what they teach in school. Raising awareness of a problem can also raise the awareness of the need to fix said problem, so education is a necessity, and a priority.
We can encourage adults to vote for people who recognize the e waste issue. We can have conversations about how this waste connects to and harms the lives of vulnerable people, and maybe even host conferences and online gatherings to spread the world and try to find innovative solutions for it.
People tease if you don't have one. Frankly I dont have my own phone
We can make people more aware of the cost of electronics and the e-waste they produce by having options of safely getting rid of your old phone when you purchase a new one. I'm not sure if they already exist but telling people that they can dispose of their old phone at the place they are purchasing the new one would get rid of unnecessary waste.
How we can bring awareness to this issue of waste showcasing how it brings harm as well as a negative impact within our society and Earth. How we can create awareness is by using the internet and social media as well as providing other knowledge through the internet.
say that its not good to waste
We can spread the word by telling family members and friends. We can also tell teachers and class mates and other people in your community.
We could tell communities and companies into taking e-waste seriously. Tell them what e-waste does to the earth and that they should try to help solve it.
We can try to make campaigns that spread the word.
good idea!
We can try writing to the companies that produce these products, we can try to figure out a way to make an enviromentally friendly device, we could just stop buying electronics altogether, or at least less.
We can make more videos, host events and spread the word to people who have phone, telling them abut the impacts and urging them to find a good recycling company if they are getting rid of a phone. We can also tell people who haven't got phones to try and buy a second hand one.
We can spread the word by maybe making posters, telling family and friends to tell their friends, or post an alert on social media!
hope it will make the eco phone by the year 2021 or 2022
Kareena (age 12):- This lesson was a COMPLETELY NEW thing for me. I didn't know that electronics had so many toxic materials inside them. I feel that we should share Ted-Ed's video, raise awareness campaigns and host competitions of lessening the use of your smart phones or recycling them after they are spoiled. I also do hope that they (the producers) will find a way of making eco-friendly smartphones soon.......
Yes, agree with you Dohoon Kim!
We can explain what we can do by using social media that to minimize waste,we can donate our smartphones to a charity for reuse, take it to an e-waste recycling facility or look for a company that refurbishes old models.Besides,we can hold the environmental knowledge activities in educational areas and others
We inform our family, friends and relative of what is the damages or the effect of phone to our environment. We warn them not to dispose but we have to recycled for the safetiness of our environment.
We want to let people know and social media is the best way to do that. But that would be using our electronics to do so. So we should think outside of the box in other ways and figure out a way to let people know without setting a bad example. I know this isn't really an idea, but its a piece of one. You can build on it if you want.
I think that the best way to make someone aware of the problem is by telling them and spreading the word.
We would use companies for disassembling phones safely, by schooled professionals, in safe conditions - I hope at least some of the metals would be suitable for reuse. What if for every phone bought we'd have to give one phone for recycling? Surely it wouldn't be a problem for most, since one usually buys a new phone to replace an old one, often after a rather short time. The company could spread awarness by their doings.
i think that we could spread the word by telling friends, family or classmates and then they will tell that to there friends, family or classmates ect. that will tell the people of the world
Since they are so linked to their phones in the first place, you can put ads on social media or send out a PSA.
The easiest way would be to spread the word, have more videos like this ted talk. I feel like smartphones are not something commonly talked about in the conversation on sustainability and climate change so getting big leaders in this movement to bring up the damaging effects of the smart phone would bring more light upon the situation.
I feel social media is one of the best ways to make people aware since a pretty good amount of peoples life are on these platforms, so I feel making it well known on socials will allow people to actually see what's happening when we continue to purchase these products
Spread the word. Theres alot of waysyou can do this, like telling your friends, posting on social media, etc.
Use all platforms to share about the people who live in the poverty and waste that is created from phones
You could advertise the warnings and information through schools or social media, so that more people are aware of the costs.
I think that we can make people more aware of electronic cost is by giving more personal examples. No one really cares unless it's threatening them, so if a model was personalized to a certain city, then it would probably be easier to understand the threat.
dont use phones
We can make people more aware by creating ways to spread the information such as commercials, posters, speeches, etc.
We can let people know this is an issue by telling our friends and family and coming up with solutions of how we can possibly make the situation better.
We could stream spreeches on tv or commercials explaining the damages phones cause to the world.
Inform and teach more people about it, show how it's actually effecting our environment.
by showing advertising at places where phones are sold and provide other option for them in the moment
In order to make people aware of these affects on the environment, we would need to advertise and use propaganda to alert the public of this.
Teach the world the bitter truth and encourage them to recycle
Although I agree with those who say spread the word and have lessons or ads about the impact, what it really comes down to is getting the phone companies on board. But with every new device that comes out, those companies make billions in production and are not going to give that up for the planet. Until a long-term communication device is created I do not think this is an issue that will be readily settled.
I think we should tell the truth to everyone but keep it subtle. If you tell them like it's a fun fact, they will be more aware and watch their footprint more.
We can educate people by bringing this issue to the news and rathering together as a whole to make a change
People can spread the word using social media platforms into taking e-waste as a serious issue.
I can tell my family and friends and they can tell people they know.
You can share the information with friends and family, create articles for the general public to see, etc
We could encourage schools to educate students about how cell phones are damaging our environment. It's sad the thing that teenagers love the most is also damaging our earth.
This is something that should be talked about more on news channels and taught in school
We can tell the people around us and/or use social media to get the word out about how many issues our cellphones actually cause to not only us but to our planet.
I think trying to control how many phones a family has would ultimately cause commotion, instead phones should only be used for communication and you are limited to what content is being used.
Start with the adolescent minds and teach them about the cost the phones that they love so dearly have on the earth, then imbed these warnings in social media and put the warning everywhere people look so that nobody can look somewhere and not see the danger of phone production.
Making more informative videos like these can go a long way when informing the general public. Also by informing students who are the future leaders of the world and educating them at an early age, we can have class discussions and come up with solutions to help the environment.
We can make it more aware by more PSAs. Telling it as a fun fact like you would about other things. I know I tell my family a lot so maybe this would be something interesting for them to hear.
spread the word to others, or just do it on social media to get a large following
Spreading the word through social media is a good place to start, you could also contact local newspapers and journalists in the hopes that they might write a story.
By creating non-profit organizations that have the common goal of letting the people know about the danger that cell phones pose around the world.
provide evidence and reach as many people as possible about the destruction smartphones have on the environment
Social media is always a good way to get a message out to the masses while staying safely in our homes avoiding the corona virus :)
We can make panel discussion and should use social media. Scientific facts and research are more effective for noticing.
Make commercials about it. Learn about it in tech class at school.
showing people
try to make a poster and show it to people
We can spread the word, especially with how big social media can be it would make it easier to get the word out and make people aware.
By sharing it on social media and to make sure people don't buy new phones and electronics too often by posting things on social media and making people talk about it
We can use technology to spread the word with things like social media and ad campaigns that educate people about it.
Share the important information with everyone around you and constantly spreading awareness. Give advice for alternative resources and other ways to help prevent more harm done to the environment.
as young people we need to know this information and share it among ourselves, its very important and maybe we could willingly choose to have a future that doesnt involve harmless consequences before we run out of materials
People could tell friends and family, or set up campaigns about the waste smartphones produce.
My daughter's thoughts: I don't like the repetatideness.
its funny most of the ways to warn peopel about smartphones are on smartphones
we can reuse old components to create new models without any habitat destruction and climate change
SPREAD THE WORD TO THE WORLD!!!!!!!!
If we keep digging these emissions, we will eventually run out.
We can spread the word by informing our family, friends, teachers. We can make presentations or videos and share them on social media like social media and target many people. We can also add it to our school education system.
Multi Governmental regulation coordinated by international committees of climate protection. We can airdrop leaflets to people, as the internet is too harmful to the environment to use
Share via social media, run meetings for those who would like to participate in ecological phones to lower our carbon footprint as a planet.
Its a terrible waste because there is a time where there will be more. Its important for people to know this so they can start recycling their old phones. Maybe if the word gets out someone can create artificial minerals that doesn't result in polluting the environment and using all the materials.
If we advertise on social media, I believe this will be the best way on how we can make more people aware and how to avoid the high cost of electronics and the terrible e-waste. Social media is the platform most people use to advertise; over 3.6 billion people use social media every day.
Phones and mobile devices are being entertainment options day by day. And companies also support this for their business. Look in recent years how many game studios and and gaming device production companies have started their business. When new generation will finish doing enough damage to their healths and lives then these ted instructor will start producing this kind of video saying don't give consoles and gaming phones to your kids rather take them to the playground!!!
We could just tell family that we are harming the world. And make it a chain reaction by family telling friends and friends telling more so we can stop damaging.
Share via social media, run meetings for those who would like to participate in ecological phones to lower our carbon footprint as a planet.
Start doing more advertising about this important topic and make people aware of this issue. The more public advertisements/ trending about this the more people will be aware and what to do something about it.
A first important step would be education, starting in primary schools and further emphasizing how much of a toll different devices take on our planet and society along the academic path. Moreover, individual governments could launch campaigns with various targets, e.g. to clarify the impact our devices have on the planet or incentivize people to buy less.
I think we can make people more aware of the cost of electronics and the terrible e-waste they produce is by educating individuals more and more. Also we should encourage individuals to recycle their old smartphones.
We can tell families, friends, or even reach out to the government.
We can spread the word by conducting social media events that urge people to all the negativity caused by electronics and the e-waste they produce.
We can spread the word by conducting social media events that urge people to all the negativity caused by electronics and the e-waste they produce.
We can spread the word by conducting social media events that urge people to all the negativity caused by electronics and the e-waste they produce.
Is there only 70 rare element
We can make a piece of street theatre about the impact phones and technology have on the environment and society
you could write a book!
Teaching the younger generation the cost of electronics to create a generation more aware of environmental costs.
Podemos compartilhar com amigos as informações. Podemos abordar sobre este assunto nas escolas.
How an nice video.
Send them the link to this video!
making posts online, or talking to friends about it
We can do them to realize the damage we do making cellphones, and do our friends and family that just buy a cellphone 1 time in 3 years and not more than 1 in 1 year for person.
spread information by telling our family or school classmates to make them reflex about the situation
We can tell it to friends, family, but an easy way is trhougth the inernet
- Doing campaigns that cell phone companies also do something and warn of this evil, that people are informed of this, etc.
I say that when they make their sale that information is included so that people can do with what materials are used to make cell phones
they should label the cellphones with the information of the land destruction they had to do to price a cellphone
Basically nothing is taken or made from outside of the earth. We can spread the word to communities such as schools, governments and companies to urge them into taking e-waste as a serious thing that needs to be solved. Spread the news on Social Media, make speeches, and start a global movement like for climate change.
I say that behind each phone it must say how long it takes to decompose and how much it pollutes
doing videos and diffunding in school principaly and in many differents places but the most important is put the example with a funniest form
We can spread the word by informing our family, friends, teachers. We can make presentations or videos and share them on social media like social media and target many people. We can also add it to our school education system.
Adding a class of the enviromental care and spreading what we learn there with all the people we know like friends, family, etc.
doing campaigns and putting up posters where it says take care of the environment and etc.
you can make people aware by talking about the rare minerals that can not get regrown and by recycling phones and donating them so another one does not have to be bought or people could use phones for longer
We have to share such things like that to other people to make them attantive to this problem. We Kids, our Families and friends should make even more and more people patient to such things. Most of them propably don't know about that. If everyone manages to tell 2 people about that, there will be more how know it, so togehter we can make a difference.
Wa can spread the word by speaking about it in school, TV shows, Radio ect. or just telling our Friends and Families.
We can spread th word by talking about it in School, TV shows or Radio, and tell then Friends und Familie.
The most easy way is by playing the teded video on instagram
I think there needs to be a bit more pressure on tech businesses to legally have to make customers aware of what they are buying and the impact of it
We can promote use of refurbished gadgets/devices.
This will happen along with awareness campaign about e-waste and it's effect on environment.
It can also be promoted through different schools.
We can also make speeches, and send such things on social media.
One of the common way is that education. This should be applied for childeen at school, especially teanagers. They should know about the emergency that we're facing.
Or, another easier way is that telling our family, friends and share these lessons on social medias
i think really good idea
Social media campaigns. Lobbying the government to enact laws to ensure mobile phone companies produce their phones in a socially responsible way.
yes
You can spread the word by telling many people about it.
We can spread the word by telling it to friends, family, and maybe even making speeches to warn them about the pollution we're causing.
Or to make it easier, just advice people through social media.
We start with ourselves, one person can make a drastic change in improving our environment. We start by using the phone a little longer. Not wanting to immediately upgrade to the new and improve thing. Purchase refurbished phones and encourage others to do so as well. Force companies by our purchasing habits to come up with environmentally safer products. There are many methods we could use to decrease the environmental impacts caused by the production of cell phones, but it starts with ourselves.
People are obsessed with there smartphones. They will keep buying the new phone that comes out. I would convince them about the money they could save and how people will eventually have to stop making phones.
We can publish the information in a striking way on social networks, try to make people with many followers see it and also share it, and this would be very helpful, because many times people do things for their favorite artists, so it would be nice to have them on the side that wants to help the world.
We simply are not tought about the elctronics and have little knowledge of how they are made and how to deal with the wasted ones. So I think from top to bottom the national authorities should take their responsibility by adding relevant informaiton into textbooks and organizing compulsory corriculums in schools. As individuals, when we are aware of the cost of electornics and the terrible e-waste they produce, we can tell our friends and the communities nearby. The electronics sellers can also tell consumers when they are buying new phones in the malls. It's not just one party's job.
Since everyone has a device, you can leave a global footprint and spread awareness online, since everything is remote.
We can make poster and spread the new to our friends, family and community. Maybe even warn them about what pollution can do to the environment.
We can raise awareness about this by, letting friends, families, relatives know about this. Make a presentation and share it to everyone. You could make a 30 second ad. So people who watch YouTube or something will see your ad, and most likely watch it, and maybe make a difference. Spread the word to organizations, maybe they can make an event based on this. Use social media, as a platform to spread awareness.
Tell everyone you know and tell them to pass the information on
We can spread the word with protests, internet posts, or just by contacting people we know and explaining the waste they make.
i just wanna throw my phone in the bin
or i want another 1?
Now, like the video said, billions and billions of people have cell phones. Not just cell phones, but also other devices. Inside these devices, we all have at least one type of social media, like Instagram, Facebook, Whatsapp, etc., so we could create a post about electronics and e-waste, and send it to all the people we know. They will also share it with others, making people more alert about electronics and the e-waste they produce.
Sharing this video with everyone we know and make all science teachers show their kids in every school. The hope the kids will go and tell their parents.
If we want everyone approve of this thought,we shoud change our educate system.
we can spread it through educational institutions, social media, and by holding movements through competitions
spread the word! media has a huge role on this
By spreading the word through our social media and other forms of communication.
We can spread the word to our family, friends and community (social media) about serious issue of e-waste in our planet that can cause plenty of damage to our biodiversity and environment.
We can create posters. Tell friends and family to spread the word. We can even tell them on social media’s like tik tok
I HOPE THEY FIGURE SOMETHING OUT!
We can tell the freinds and family and make ads and put up signs.
We need to work more on social awareness, utilizing social media will be extremely beneficial. Also, we need to have a sustainable alternative because no one can live without a smartphone now, so let's give them better options and encourage them to use it.
Inform them what it takes to produce a phone, and what happens to it after it falls out of use.
As individuals, we can tell people we know and share information on social media where information is spread quickly.
I think social media is a good platform to get the word across.
We can spread the word by making videos of what it visually looks like and how it will all effect us in the long run.
We can place a flyer inside the phone box or before you turn on your phone you can read a mini article about e-waste and cost of production.
We can spread the word by telling it to friends, family, and maybe even making speeches to warn them about the pollution we're causing.
Or to make it easier, just advice people through social media.
We can spread the word with people we know or spread informations with speeches, documentaries, TV programmes...
We can spread the word to communities such as schools, governments and companies to urge them into taking e-waste as a serious thing that needs to be solved. Spread the news on Social Media, make speeches, and start a global movement like for climate change.
Spread the word to those we know and help educate them on the matter
