According to the Honour Based Violence Awareness Network, there are 5,000 honor killings that happen every year internationally. Honor killings occur when a female family member does a dishonor to her family. Events of dishonor in honor killings include, but are not limited to: committing adultry, being a victim of sexual assault, refusing to enter an arranged marriage, entering a "wrong" marriage, and seeking a divorce. Honor killings have been happening for centuries due to cultural and religious beliefs. Because of this, the need for education is vital, yet extremely difficult. Interventions have been made internationally, nationally, and locally; however, these killings are still occurring at a rate of 1,000 in Pakistan alone.
