In Stephen's case, he praises the people in his life that made a difference based upon how they accommodated his interests and his energy. He appreciates the style of a supportive coach or mentor as opposed to a more disciplinarian style, and contrasts the experience he had in his educational experience with that of his friend, Alex. What impact do each of these styles of relating to learners have? How can we walk that fine line between being an effective coach or mentor vs. being a disciplinarian? In what ways can we cultivate a sensitivity to people who have ADHD or other learning differences? How, as teachers, can we nurture, support and accommodate the Stephen's of the world, while also utilizing the methods of our profession to assist students in developing the skills that they themselves my not see the value in?
