Grizzly bears stick to a mostly vegetarian diet in sync with plant
growing seasons. However, as grizzlies' habitats grow smaller, food is
harder to come by. Using NASA satellites, scientists track the shifting,
interrelated patterns of grizzlies and plants. David Laskin explains
how this data can help protect the threatened bears.
Just like the digital camera in your phone, satellite sensors capture incoming light to take a ‘picture.' Explain the journey that light must travel, from when it leaves the sun, to when it finally gets recorded by the satellite sensor as an image of Earth. Be sure to include some of the things that the light might encounter along the way that could affect the quality of the final image.
