The human body is designed for movement, and our skeleton includes 360 joints. More than 250 of those joints are able to move in more than one direction. This unique structure gives the human body the ability to perform a wide variety of movements. However, some of our joints are immobile and are instead structured to protect important organs, such as the brain.

Changing the culture at work
What can be done to help start change at an engineering firm? We need plenty of desk space and desktop rather than laptop computers. Most standing and treadmill desks seem designed for laptop use and have pretty minimal space available for working.

For your purposes, you may not have room for standing desks. But, what about walking meetings? Walking meetings are a great way to get some exercise and you'll be surprised how much faster your meetings become!

I agree - not everything we do is work that is exclusively performed on a laptop. I personally hate laptops - I have a monster desktop with almost 10TB of space. A lot of work can get done while standing up by utilizing an adult-size desktop surface so that you can lay out your work just like everyone else does!

I am in a cubicle at work, what are some things that can be done with cubicles? Ours would not have the room to raise the desk piece high enough since one wall is half height at a window.

Thanks for that idea. How do you keep notes/keep track of what happened during a walking meeting? via an email immediately after summarizing what was discussed and action items?

I take full advantage of the 'record' button on my phone! I never want to lose good meeting ideas, so I record comments as we walk and then type them up when the walk is over. Works great for us!

hard to say, without knowing the office space particulars. But projectors, interactive pens, smart tables, interactive smartboards would seem to be decent tech choices. Varying seating a bit - office chairs and bar stool-type chairs, etc.

My dad was a draftsman for a number of years (then a cost engineer), and he varied it quite a bit.

There are a lot of great ideas coming here that could change offices as we know it. That is, if those great ideas can make it through HR and Legal, not to mention OSHA and the review committee especially assembled to bury them as an example to the next generation when they get any similar great ideas.
